A PROPOSED skatepark in Lyme Regis has been recommended for approval by West Dorset District Council.
Lyme Regis Town Council hope to construct the facility at the Charmouth Road car park - and councillors are expected to give the scheme the green light at Thursday's development control meeting.
The town council launched a long-running campaign to build the skatepark, which will cost around £150,000. Concerns had been raised over noise, safety and loss of car parking spaces. West Dorset District Council received almost 100 letters from residents both in support and against the scheme.
In a report to councillors, planning officer Debbie Redding said: "This proposal will provide a valuable community asset and recreational facility, the location and design are acceptable and the impact on residential amenity is not likely to be seriously detrimental.
"Whilst security and surveillance could perhaps be better in a different location; taking account of the support from local people and comments regarding crime prevention this proposal is considered to be acceptable."
The scheme has been recommended to be approved subject to a number of conditions, including only being open during daylight hours and details of the construction of an acoustic barrier.
