DORSET Police’s No Excuse team have been out in Bridport once again cracking down on careless and dangerous motorists.

On Monday November 10, the team were targeting errant drivers along the A35, A3066 and B3157, due to speed complaints and collisions. Two uninsured cars were seized as part of the operation.

The No Excuse team will also be patrolling the same areas on Wednesday, November 26.

The news comes after the team launched operations in West Dorset at the end of October. The Bridport and Lyme Regis News joined the team on a patrol around Bridport and surrounding areas on Wednesday October 29, led by Sgt Stuart Pitman with PC Jason Cartridge.

In response to the number of crashes on Dorset’s roads this year, Dorset Police's No Excuse campaign now has a dedicated full-time team educating drivers to become safer motorists and responding to resident complaints.

The aim of the team, who operate 24 hours a day, is to use a combination of enforcement and education to tackle the 'fatal five.'

These are drink and drug driving; excessive and inappropriate speed; not wearing a seatbelt; driver distractions such as hand-held mobile phones; and careless driving.
