A BEAMINSTER teenager has sung her way into the final of a national teen talent competition.

Seventeen-year-old Amy Walklett has fixed herself a place at the TeenStar singing and dance competition Grand Final after being voted in by the audience.

Amy was unlucky on the night when she performed Take That’s ‘Rule the World’ at the Area Finals in London in May, but was entered into the ‘Wildcard’ vote. She competed against other contestants for the last remaining place in the final round.

Her fate was left at the hands of a public text vote, where she was crowned most popular and secured herself a spot in the Grand Final.

Amy said she was shocked to have grabbed the sought-after place in the final.

She said: “Performing at the Area Finals was another amazing experience. I absolutely loved the bigger stage and audience and was disappointed not to secure a Grand Final place on the night.

“I knew it was a long shot that I might win the Wildcard vote and when the result came in that I had won the Wildcard Vote I could hardly believe it.

“It’s been a bit of a roller coaster journey but I have loved every minute of it and I am really excited about the Grand Final. I enjoy all the preparation and build-up as much as the performing and I feel so lucky to have this opportunity again.”

Amy dreams of working and performing in the music industry and plans to spend the summer gigging in the local area. The ex-Beaminster school pupil has just finished her first year at the Academy of Music and Sound in Exeter, studying a BTEC in music.

The TeenStar contest is the only singing and dancing competition exclusively for teens and pre-teens. Throughout the heats, contestants are given the chance to put their own stamp on songs that people already know.

Amy and her band of supporters will travel to Herts for one more opportunity to perform in front of an industry and celebrity judging panel at The Alban Arena in the Grand Final at the end of July.
