TELEVISION cameras will roll in west Dorset when a ‘pop-up auction’ will feature in a new BBC programme.

Unwanted items will be sold in Beaminster on Sunday for part of the new television series, Street Auction, which will be shown on BBC One.

The new series will bring a street and a community together in a massive fundraising effort.

The series will be presented by Paul Martin of Flog It, and will be filmed at Barnes Lane.

Last month, neighbours in the area were asked to donate unwanted and unloved items, which will be sold at a ‘pop-up auction’, right in the heart of where they live.

The auction will form part of a street party with stalls of donated items including cakes, bric-a-brac, books and plants, along with other fundraising initiatives and entertainment. The stalls will all add to the total being raised and, at the end of the event, the grand total will be announced.

Paul Martin said he was impressed with what people had donated.

He said: “We are really looking forward to it.

“We met some fantastic people on our rummaging day and it makes you realise how keen people are to help in a community effort.

“It also makes you realise how all of us have things we are willing to part with. We’ve found some great things in sheds and attics. Local businesses in Beaminster have also given meals, a hairdo and even meat vouchers. We hope lots of people will come along on the day – and bring something to sell for the fund.”

Assisting Paul in Beaminster will be Danny Sebastian, who has made regular appearances on shows like Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is, Del Boys and Dealers and Car Booty.

The street auction event will be held from 1.30pm until 5pm. The money raised will go to a public spirited local resident who will be revealed on the day.
