POLICE are warning residents about a scam after reports of a couple knocking on doors asking people to buy paintings from them.

Officers are investigating after potential doorstep scams in Beaminster and Mosterton and have offered advice for residents to keep safe.

PCSO Dave Ash from Beaminster police, said: “Local police have recently received reports of a male and female knocking on doors in the Beaminster and Mosterton areas, showing a card stating that they are deaf and asking residents to purchase drawings from them.

“One suggested that they are usually given £13, £15 or £20.

“A verbal exchange during one of these encounters suggested that the caller was not in fact deaf, although this cannot be confirmed 100 per cent.”

The incidents come after Dorset Police receiver similar reports in the Poole area.

PCSO Ash has issued advice when dealing with door-to-door traders.

He said: “Never accept work from anyone who offers goods or services on your doorstep or over the phone.

“Never let anyone in your home, unless you have made arrangements for someone to attend or know who they are.

“Never go to the bank with a tradesperson or give them access to your bank card and PIN.”

Anyone with information should call Dorset Police on 101.
