A military wives choir will perform in Lyme Regis to mark the 80th anniversary of D-Day this year.

The Lympstone Military Wives Choir will be visiting the town on Saturday, June 8 for a concert at Woodmead Halls organised by the Lyme Regis branch of the Royal British Legion.

The concert will conclude a weekend of events being co-ordinated by Lyme Regis Town Council to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings in 1944.

The Military Wives Choirs is a community of more than 2,000 women in 72 choirs across the UK and internationally. The groups were formed following Gareth Malone TV series The Choir which united wives and girlfriends left behind by troops deployed to Afghanistan through song.

Prior to this event, there will be a D-Day torchlight procession and beacon lighting at The Cobb on Thursday, June 6 and an exhibition in the Jubilee Pavilion on the seafront, both  organised by Lyme Regis Museum.

Lyme Regis has hosted many special events in honour of the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings including a RNLI boat blessing ceremony and talk by a local historian about the US troops arrival in the town.

Tickets cost £8 and are available to buy at the Lyme Regis Town Council offices.
