West Dorset residents put on their running shoes and raced the London Marathon for causes close to their hearts.

For some, this was their first ever marathon, whilst others have been lucky enough to run the huge event before.

Many raised money for causes close to them, including Mind UK, Dementia Revolution and Whizz Kids.

Tell us a little about why you ran?I first ran in 2019 for dementia revolution and since this time have kept in contact with many others who also ran or supported the runners. I was invited to participate in a group entry called SuesCrew headed by Sue Strachan. We have raised over £67,000. I initially ran in 2019 as my mother in law was becoming quite forgetful and then got involved teaching exercise classes for dementia friendly Bridport. I am a fitness instructor and work for bridport leisure centre, so classes were held here. I have taught many people who have developed dementia symptoms over the years

Tell us a little about why you ran? This was my first marathon. I ran for the charity Whizz Kids and am incredibly pleased with how I did. Suffering a knee injury 6 weeks ago felt like a real blow with my hope of a good finish time going out of the window. But I did it is a respectable 5 hours 17 minutes which I’m really pleased with!
