A charity dedicated to improving community wellbeing and resources in Bridport is looking to recruit a trustee with knowledge of building maintenance.

Bridport Area Development Trust (BADT) has been responsible for innovative initiatives in and around the town, not least the Literary and Scientific Institute (LSi) in East Street and the multi-award-winning beachside West Bay Discovery Centre.

BADT chair Phyllida Culpin said: “We are a tight-knit, focused, hands-on and supportive team and would be delighted to welcome a new member who is equally enthusiastic about actively giving something back to their community.

“The trust will consider any project in and around Bridport that has a regenerative benefit, especially if they are of an economic and / or educational nature, with a top priority for BADT support being sustainability.”

The trust works in partnership to identify, plan and deliver projects that meet local need and provide long-term economic, social and cultural benefit to Bridport and surrounding villages.

BADT is a registered charity and company limited by guarantee and was established in 2009 to rescue, restore and repurpose the LSi, it is run by eight volunteer trustees.

It employs managing agents to deal with day-to-day maintenance and liaison, and the new trustee will be responsible for approving higher-value works, communicating with the LSi’s tenants and advising trustees of routine repairs and any more substantial work.

Experience of building services, maintenance, construction or engineering is essential.
