A new community event is taking place in Bridport to celebrate World Mental Health Day.

The event, ‘And Breathe…Bridport’, will take place on Monday, October 9 and Tuesday, October 10, at multiple locations across the town.

Burrough Harmony Centre have spearheaded the idea alongside 70 health and wellbeing organisations, individuals and charities.

There will be over 50 wellbeing workshops showcasing activities from artists, writers, musicians, photographers and practitioners available within the community that aim to help improve physical and mental health.

A spokesperson for the event, said: “The Burrough Harmony Centre is working in partnership with local health and wellbeing organisations and community groups to put on two days of creative workshops, music, film, art and nature activities plus exercise, information stands and talks. There will be something for everyone!

“This event promoting community and individual wellbeing brings together opportunities for people to explore new ways of improving their health and wellbeing.”

Over the course of the two days, visitors will be able to take part in boxercise or circuit training classes to work on their physical health, or dance and art workshops. There will also be talks explaining the different stages of grief and how domestic abuse effects mental health.

Some of the activities will require a small donation or fee, but others will be free and people are advised to check the ‘And Breathe…Bridport’ programme for more information. as some events requiring booking ahead of time.

The event will also sign off with a concert called ‘Exhale’ at the Electric Palace, featuring several Dorset-based acts.

Rapper, Isaiah Dreads and Bridport-based rocksteady band, The Skalatans, are headlining the event, whilst Ladies of the Lawn will also be performing straight after appearing at Besitval.

There will also be a slideshow of photographs sent in by members of the public celebrating something they are grateful for displayed on the evening. 

The concert will cost £10 for adults and £5 for concessions.
