AN EXCITING new programme of music is set to jazz up autumn.

Jazz Jurrassica is back with a new series of shows from next month.

Kicking off the Jazz Jurrassica event this October at The Gateway in Seaton is a jazz supper, followed by two exhilarating gigs in November at Marine Theatre in Lyme Regis.

Jazz singer Leigh Coleman and his A-list band will embark on a musical homage to some of the greatest singers ever recorded on the iconic Blue Note record label.

This special performance will feature up-tempo swing to the contemporary fringes of jazz.

Leigh Coleman is set to be accompanied by long-time collaborator Matt Carter on the keys, with the evening marking Leigh’s return to Jazz Jurassica after a three-year gap.

Julie Sheppard of Jazz Jurassica said: “It’s a varied and strong programme for Autumn. Leigh Coleman is, in our opinion, one of the best male jazz singers in the country and brings a rare soulful energy to everything he does

In November, the Marine Theatre will host two very special events.

Groove Den, featuring award-winning guest trombonist Dennis Rollins will take to the stage creating funky sounds.

Bandleader and saxophonist James Morton last appeared in Lyme Regis at a sold-out show with the late Pee Wee Ellis.

Julie added: “Groove Den is huge fun with its blend of jazz, funk and hip-hop – just a party waiting to happen. And we were blown away when we saw Mamas Gun live last year, they don’t tour very often in this country so this will be a rare opportunity to see them.”

Mamas Gun, an exciting contemporary soul bands will wrap up the November schedule and are set to thrill audiences with original material echoing the classic sounds of Marvin Gaye, Bill Withers and Curtis Mayfield.
