HARLEY Riders Elizabeth and Anthony Gosnold of Burton Bradstock realised a dream of theirs to ride through the Rockies, on an amazing three-week trip, which covered 3500 miles and took in the Icefields Parkway.

"140 miles of staggering scenery between Lake Louise and Jasper in the heart of the Canadian Rockies - what Harley rider could resist riding a road with that name," said Mr Gosnold.

Their trip started in Great Falls Montana with their friend Peter Buckingham from where they rode north into Canada.

They visited Glacier National Park and rode over the 'Going to the sun road' which Anthony says was: "Rather like riding over the Alps but much bigger!!" They then rode the Northwest Passage and Grand Teton Scenic Byways, the Grand Teton National Park and Yellowstone.

Riding through the snow they visited Cody and the Buffalo Bill Museum then up to the delightful Cooke City Montana with a population of only 68 in the winter.

The best ride of the trip was "the Beartooth Highway all American Road" in Montana, over the Beartooth mountains under clear blue skies after it had snowed.

Anthony said: "This was very cold at 11000 ft it was minus 3c and blowing a gale!! However Elizabeth so enjoyed that ride we went back over top for 32 miles and did the road again".

At the end of the trip they returned the bikes to Great Falls with regret as they both wanted to keep on riding.

Of the many trips they have taken, including riding in the Andes and New Zealand this trip for them topped the lot.

Highlights from the tour were an unexpected encounter with a bear, being surrounded by bison in Yellowstone, the many virtually empty stretches of road and the of course the most wonderful scenery.
