Campaigners have vowed to continue their fight to resurrect an indoor skatepark, saying 'it will be worth it.'

The Trick Factory steering group is set to hold an open meeting at which members will look at the delay in confirming premises for a new skate park in Bridport and what can be done about it. New sponsorship will also be revealed.

Bridport Town Council has already committed £35,000 towards the project, which is seen to be one of its top 10 priorities, while Bridport Rotary Club has committed its support 'for as long as it takes.'

Following on from a successful partnership with the Rotary at this year's Melplash Show, the Trick Factory steering group is planning its next appearance at the Bridport Charter Fair on Saturday, September 29.

Parent representative Katie Smith, whose husband Derek and two young sons are also members of the steering group, said: “I feel that supporting this project with my boys is an invaluable lesson. Showing them the hard work involved. It may take some time but it will be worth it. I want to encourage my children to take on challenges, not to sit back and watch other people.”

The indoor Trick Factory, which was based at St Michael’s Trading Estate, Bridport, had no option but to close in 2016 following 17 years of voluntary service to young people.

Since then, young people, their parents and even grandparents have been working hard to try and bring the indoor skatepark back to life at a new location.

The campaign received a boost in April when the town council announced it was to earmark £15,000 for the project with the intention of raising a further £20,000. West Dorset MP Oliver Letwin also offered his support to the cause, stating his willingness to bring together district and county councillors to determine what they could best do to help.

Anyone with an interest in seeing Trick Factory is welcome to attend the open meeting on Wednesday, September 12, at 6.30pm at Mountfield.
