Model railway enthusiasts from far and wide are expected at an exhibition is it reaches a grand scale.

The Bridport and District Model Railway Club is set to host its annual summer exhibition at the Sir John Colfox Academy - and it's looks to be bigger than ever before.

This year, due its new location, the event will have larger exhibition area, more layouts, demonstrations and traders. The new venue offers free parking close to the exhibition hall and visitors will be able to view a wide variety of layouts in various gauges and themes, from both local exhibitors and those coming from farther afield.

The novelty scene will be presented by ‘Newpnett Thrubwell’, which is a cartoon Gn15 gauge layout, whilst the local area will be well-represented by the Somerset and Dorset ‘Shillingsford’ 00 gauge layout.

The military aspect will be represented by ‘Longmoor,' which is an N gauge layout, and there will be a static display about the 'Royal Train.' Several narrow gauge layouts including ‘Lane End’ and ‘Ernies Halt’ will be present as will other models in Lego and Meccano. Other layouts will depict scenes with a wide variety of stock from different periods.

Visitors will be able to vote for the layout or display they consider to be awarded the Best in Show trophy. The exhibition will also be supported by PECO, the world famous model railway manufacturer from Beer, Devon.

A variety of traders will be present with both new and secondhand products for visitors to purchase, and there will be demonstrations and refreshments available throughout the day.

Organisers hope to welcome 'many local people and visitors embarking on their holidays with us here in West Dorset.'

All the stops have been pulled out to make the event a success; the Jurassic Mule open top bus will provide a shuttle service from West Bay and Bridport town centre to the exhibition venue throughout the day.

The exhibition will take place on Saturday from 10am to 4pm.
