Pupils dribbled, hopped and ran as part of special charity challenge at their school.

Students at St Mary's Primary School, Bridport competed in the Soccer Aid challenge, which was organised by St Mary's Sports Council and supported by teacher Miss Smith.

The Sports Council is made up of two children from each class, who lead and organise sporting events throughout the year.

An obstacle course was set up, including having to dribble a ball through cones and hopping over hurdles with a football held between the knees.

Abigail in Year 4, who took part in the challenge, said: "It was good but the challenges were very hard."

Charlie, who is part of the Sports Council, said: "I loved organising and setting the obstacle course with The Sports Council.

"I enjoyed being in goal and encouraging everyone to have a go."

All years participated in the challenge, which coincided with the Soccer Aid match, which saw celebrities and ex-football players join together to raise money more than £5 million for Unicef.

A spokesman for the school said: "It was fantastic to see all years take part with such enthusiasm and a great 'have a go' attitude.

"A big well done to the Sports Council for their fantastic organisation, encouragement and involvement."

The challenge has been set for pupils across the UK, who can bring in a small donation to take part in the obstacle course or wear their favourite football or sports kit for the day.

For every £1 the schools raise, the UK government will match, doubling the difference children in the UK can make to the lives of children around the world.

Unicef UK executive director, Mike Penrose, said: "We'd like to say a huge thank you to the generous pupils across the country who took part in the Soccer Aid for Unicef Playground Challenge.

"It was fantastic to see schools come together and do their bit for children in danger. "With the UK government matching every pound, the money raised will go twice as far in helping Unicef protect children all around the world."

The challenge finished on Friday, July 6.
