Motorists are being urged to allow extra travel time as roadworks, which started today, causing delays of up to two hours, it has been claimed.
Work started along the A35 at Chideock this morning, with 24-hour traffic signals put in place.
Overnight closures are also possible and the work is expected to be completed by Friday, May 4.
Motorists reported lengthy tailbacks in both directions- as far as the Crown roundabout, Bridport, and Charmouth.
Tracy Wood, who was travelling from Lyme Regis to West Bay this morning, said: "It took two hours from Lyme. I'm only making a delivery and then got to go back again. It's a nightmare."
