Schoolchildren were given a fascinating insight into the world of construction on a tour of a new homes development.

Pupils from St Michael’s Primary School, Lyme Regis, donned hard hats and high visibility vests for their trip to Bloor Homes’ Woodberry Copse development off Woodberry Down Way, where they experienced the workings of a building site for the first time.

The children were shown around the Dartmouth five-bedroom show home by sales manager Jane Briscoe and marketing manager Nikki Taylor, before being taken out on site to see the building process at first hand.

The pupils enjoyed a sneak preview of some of the homes currently under construction, and learnt about the various stages involved in building a house – from the brickwork to the plumbing and painting.
Site managers James Taylor and Matthew Hill also stressed the importance of health and safety, and shared their top tips for staying safe.

Nick Kiddle, headteacher at St Michael’s, said: “The children had an amazing time at Woodberry Copse. They were in awe of the show home, the size of bedrooms and especially how deep the carpets felt under their feet.

“This visit was such a memorable day for them all as it was something they had never experienced before.

“The site staff were great, encouraging the children to explore all areas of the houses whilst at the same time giving them information about the construction process.

“Overall, the children really enjoyed their time with everyone at the development and will be talking about their visit for weeks to come.”

Bloor Homes also donated an impressive 3D model of the Woodberry Copse development to the school.

Mr Kiddle added: “The model is displayed in the main school hall and has been a real talking point among parents, staff, children and visitors. It has given some of our children who live at Woodberry Copse a real sense of pride when asked to show others and talk about their homes.”

Ms Briscoe added: “It was an absolute pleasure to welcome pupils from the school to Woodberry Copse and we hope they enjoyed their visit.

“The pupils behaved themselves incredibly during their tour and we were very impressed with their enthusiasm and inquisitiveness.”
