THE manager of a Bridport cinema has reassured customers that “initial teething problems” have been solved after the screening of two films were delayed or cancelled.

Owners of the Electric Palace on South Street, have spent more than £60,000 on new equipment and a new cinemas screen as part of a complete refurbishment programme.

Manager of the Electric Palace, Susan Warren, believes the technical issues have been “hugely frustrating and disappointing”.

She said: “In a business that relies increasingly on technology, it is perhaps understandable that we have encountered some initial teething problems.

“On two recent occasions these have included problems with our new digital projector. Clearly, this is hugely frustrating and disappointing for us and, more importantly, for our customers.

“We want to assure customers that the technical problems have now been rectified and, specifically, we have purchased an additional hard drive as a backup failsafe, so they will not occur again.

“We will continue to work hard to ensure that we are able to provide a first-class entertainment experience for you and we hope that we can count on your continued support. In the coming weeks we have a great programme of films for people to enjoy.”

Ms Warren became the new manager of the Electric Palace in February 2015, when the building was sold by Peter Hitchin - who had owned the venue since 2003. He rescued the building which had been shut since 1999 when operators Reeltime Entertainment closed it down after finding rusty steelwork in the balcony.

Ms Warren is committed to continuing the renovation work at the Electric Palace.

She said: “Over the past year, we have spent more than £60,000 on a new digital cinema projector, a new sound system, and a new cinema screen.

“We are currently engaged in an on-going process of refurbishment, including a re-upholstering of all the seats, and we remain totally committed to delivering top quality film and entertainment to our customers.”

The 'new' Electric Palace funded by Palmers Brewery was opened by the Mayor of Bridport, Mr F Weeks on June 14, in 1926.
