A MOTORIST has suffered 'serious' injuries after a car came off the road in West Dorset.

However, the injuries are not said to be life-threatening.

The A35 was closed in both directions near Bridport because of the accident, which occurred at Morcombelake earlier this afternoon near the Tizard’s Knapp junction. All roads are now re-open.

Police, ambulance and fire crews were called to the scene shortly after 2pm to reports of a car that had gone off the road.

The casualty was initially trapped in the vehicle but was freed by fire crews and paramedics.

A spokesperson for Dorset Police said that there was one casualty who had suffered serious chest injuries but they are not thought to be life threatening.

Motorists are being warned of heavy traffic delays and are being advised to avoid the area.

A police spokesperson said the vehicle involved is currently down a bank off the road and it was also believed that the car ‘was smoking’.

Police said there appeared to be one casualty.

A spokesperson for the South Western Ambulance Service said: “We received the call at 2.02pm reporting that a single vehicle had left the road and rolled over.

“We have quite a few ambulance resources at the scene as we are working with the fire service to get the patient out - as the car is reported to be in a precarious position.”

A police spokesperson said as a result of the accident, the road was closed in both directions between the Charmouth Bypass at the junction with Newlands Caravan Park and the Felicity’s Farm Shop in Morcombelake.
