A hungry rabbit enjoyed his Christmas dinner early after munching through a delivery package left in his hutch.

Wilf couldn’t help himself from devouring Bridport resident Fee Jeanes’ new jeans after the package was hidden away in a wooden hutch outside her West Street home.

Luckily for Fee, Marks and Spencer gave her a full refund – but she was left stunned to find her package had been left inside the hutch by the delivery contractor.

“I had a note through the door to say that they had been delivered” she said. “But I couldn’t for the life of me find out where they had put them.

“I eventually ventured down the garden and there they were in the rabbit hutch – well what was left of them. I think two days in the hutch with the jeans was too tempting and they were ripped to shreds by Wilf. It was such a bizarre place to put them.

“The delivery person was lucky Wilf didn’t go for him as he’s not exactly shy.”

Fee is no stranger to daring animals. In 2011, the Bridport News reported on her cat Dodger, who was seen hopping on and off buses, sitting on passengers’ laps as they waited and even took a trip to Charmouth and back along the Jurassic Coast.

Disaster almost struck for Fee again, when a postman left expensive Christmas presents in her green wheelie bin.

First, her son’s Christmas present, an Xbox controller worth £60, was left in the bin – before more than £200 worth of tiaras from Fee’s dance group were left out with the rubbish.

“They were for the Fee Jeanes Toddlers Ballet group Christmas party,” she said. “I got a note from the postman that said they had been left in the green rubbish bin. They had been there for 24 hours. But if I had been away the bin would have been collected and I wouldn’t have seen them again. The parents of the girls had already paid for them, so I would have had to replace them myself as I had no proof I hadn’t received them.

“There are plenty of other places they could have left them – but it’s so stupid to leave them in my dustbin. Luckily my children don’t take the rubbish out that often – otherwise it could have been a lot worse.”

Bridport Post Office apologised to Fee for leaving the two packages in her wheelie bin.

Royal Mail spokesperson, Val Bodden said: “We are sorry to hear that our customer has experienced problems with the delivery of her mail.

“Royal Mail apologises for any inconvenience and distress caused in this case. It is always our top priority to keep mail safe and secure and this has not happened on this occasion.

“We regularly remind our postmen and women of the importance of keeping mail safe and secure at all times and we will be reminding them again.”
