Youth music group B Sharp will celebrate its achievements of the past year at its annual party fundraiser this weekend.

A celebration of workshops and projects undertaken by young people, the party features live music from funk covers outfit Mr Jéan, fronted by B Sharp music leader Jacques Verhaeren, as well as new sounds from B Sharp’s regular Tuesday night Hub Sessions.

The party will be held this Saturday at the Marine Theatre.

B Sharp director Fran Williams said: “This is a chance for everyone who has been involved with B Sharp projects to get together with our partners and, most importantly, the community as a whole for a fun, relaxed evening with some fantastic live music.

“It’s also a great opportunity for B Sharp alumni to come back and play.”

The Hub Sessions are open to young people from the age of 11 to take part in sessions in small groups to explore different styles and ways of making music, playing in groups and writing original material. The sessions, which are lead by young music leaders and music mentors, can offer a clear pathway to further music education and vocational training.

Fran added: “Whether young people want to become better musicians or embark on a path that can lead to a career there is a definite progression to be made here.

“The Hub Sessions are absolutely pivotal to what we do.”

B Sharp has worked with thousands of young musicians since 2007, running regular music-making sessions and offering training and professional development.

Saturday’s party also features an acoustic stage and a chance to wind down to some sounds played on the grand piano. Tickets are available from the Lyme Regis Tourist Information Centre on 01297 442138, priced at £6 per person or £3 for those under 16. Everybody is welcome to come along.
