The Right Hon Lynne Featherstone MP attended an event hosted by The West Dorset Liberal Democrats.
She spoke to a well attended reception at the Royal Lion Hotel about the dangers of Ebola, methods of stopping it spreading, the problems of hygiene in communities and plans to support field centres in the worst affected towns and regions of West Africa.
Lynne is pictured left with district and county councillor Ros Kayes, who introduced her to a range of residents including members of campaign group Amnesty International.
Cllr Kayes said: “Lynne is an inspirational minister.
“She is keenly aware of inequalities faced by those of us living in rural areas and that’s why I’ve chosen her visit to launch my campaign for a Rural Bill of Rights.
“Not enough people in Dorset get the same access to services as those living in cities or the suburbs.
“That is also why I am working with my colleague in North Dorset, Hugo Mievelle, to campaign for extra support from government to councils in rural areas.
“The fact is that in terms of facilities and access to services many of us are second class citizens when we live in rural areas and it’s not taken seriously enough.”
Cllr Kayes added that the manifesto for a Rural Bill of Rights will be released shortly.
