PEOPLE with a sense of adventure tackled this year’s Kamikaze Adventure Run near Bridport in aid of Dorset disability charity Diverse Abilities Plus.

Diverse Abilities Plus, the Dorset disability charity that supports more than 600 adults, children and their families across the county, held the VOTWO Kamikaze Adventure Run on Sunday, September 7.

Mapperton Farm near Bridport was transformed to host the event and saw fundraisers challenge themselves as they crawled, walked, trawled, jumped, slid, scrambled, ran and swung their way around the course to cross the finish line where they were crowned a Kamikaze Warrior.

Among those taking part were three friends from Bridport; 42-year-old David Atyeo, colleague Simon Hyett, 27, and Robert Cadman, 40, who have managed to raise more than £450 for the charity.

David, who runs his own accountancy business Donovan Atyeo in Beaminster, said he was inspired to take on the challenge after seeing the plea for willing participants in The News.

He added: “I’d always wanted to do something like this for charity and after hearing the Kamikaze Adventure Run was practically right on my doorstep I had no excuse not to give it a go.

“The run was very challenging because the hills were really steep, but it was just excellent and I was pleased to see so many people taking part.

“It was also very well organised and the day had a great feel to it with much camaraderie.

“I’ll definitely take part next year too, because the event is for a great and very worthwhile cause. I would encourage anyone who is up for an exciting fundraising challenge to give it a go in the future.”

People had the choice to run, jog or walk an eight mile, or four if preferred, obstacle course designed by ex-Royal Marines to test toughness, strength, stamina, fitness, camaraderie and mental grit.

Sharon Wells, Events Fundraiser at Diverse Abilities Plus, said: “The VOTWO Kamikaze Run was a fantastic event which tested the participant’s determination, stamina and fitness.

“We are truly grateful to those that took part in aid of Diverse Abilities and have raised funds to further support children and adults with disabilities across the whole of Dorset."
