SPONSORS are needed for a Powerstock project commemorating the 11 soldiers and sailors from the parish who died during the First World War.

Volunteers are researching the lives and deaths of the men who sacrificed their lives and the plan is to turn their stories into a book.

But to do that costs money, said project co-ordinator Richard Connaughton.

He said: “The intention is that the accounts of our 11 First World War dead be made into a book for purchase as a permanent and living memorial of their existence.

“But this does not come cheap and the production and printing and publishing of a small print run will cost money.”

The names of all the sponsors will appear in the book. The plan is for a paperback and possibly an ebook. The book should be out in time for Remembrance Day.

If there is any profit the money may be shared between Powerstock and Poorton churches and a suitable military charity such as Help for Heroes or Veterans’ Aid.

Cheques from sponsors can be made out to Powerstock PCC and sent to Mr Connaughton at Wallhayes, Nettlecombe, DT6 3TF.
