BRIDPORT’S latest Prince’s Trust team did themselves proud when they stood up in front of an audience at the town hall.

The second Bridport team to undergo the 12-week programme, run by Dorset Fire and Rescue Service, each gave presentations on their roles in the scheme designed to allow 16 to 25-year-olds to undertake many different activities while working towards a nationally recognised award.

The participants, who usually come from a variety of different backgrounds, had the opportunity to spend a week away at a residential activity centre, undertake a project based in their local community, complete a work placement and participate in a team challenge, involving caring for others.

As part of their challenge the team held a charity car wash at the fire station and helped out a mothers’ and children’s group, a residential home and a youth group.

Marie-Clare Nicholson, Prince’s Trust franchise manager said: “The course is aimed at helping to change the lives of these young people.

“It gives them something to aim for and a better chance within the workforce.

“In 2013 we have helped more than 100 young people progress to university, employment, apprenticeships and living independently.

“We have also won a regional award for our community project work, which we are extremely proud of.”

She added: “We run courses throughout the year across Dorset.
