THE successful candidates winning a seat on Charmouth Parish Council have been announced.

A by-election was held yesterday following the resignation of six parish councillors, with eight people putting their names forward for the job.

The six candidates elected were: Jane Felicity Morrow, Peter Richard Noel, Paul Ronald Oatway, Andrew Gregory Peters, Ian Simpson, and Philip Charles Frederick Tritton.

Mr Simpson topped the poll with 278 votes, followed jointly by Mrs Morrow and Mr Oatway with 261 votes each, closely followed by Mr Noel with 260 votes, with Mr Tritton at 250 votes, and Mr Peters securing 227 votes.

Mrs Morrow and Mr Peters both return to the council as part of the group of six who resigned.

There were 448 ballot papers issued, representing a turnout of 40.1 per cent.
