A GROUP of friends will be taking the chop to support a brave four-year-old who is battling leukaemia.

Mum Bronwen Dickenson and four of her friends will be saying goodbye to their locks to raise money for three children’s cancer charities.

The five-some have raised more than £800 so far, the funds will be split between the Amelia-Grace Rainbow fund, Jon Glover Trust and Three Ells Trust which all support children suffering with illness and their families.

They will be doing the sponsored head shave to support young Dominic Dickenson, who was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia last year at the age of three and has lost his hair twice due to chemotherapy treatment.

Bronwen said: “Dominic hasn’t had an easy journey so far and has had some real highs and lows.

“He was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia in May last year when he was three years old.

“One of the lows was the loss of his beautiful curly hair not once but twice, a side effect of chemotherapy.

“We at Team Dominic have decided to join him in his sacrifice.

“So myself and four other team members, Darren Walkinshaw, Lindsay Swatridge, Stephen John Davis and Jemma Larder will shave off our hair in solidarity.”

She added: “The Ropemakers pub has kindly donated the use of their establishment and are staying open longer just for us.

“We will also be holding a raffle and we have some lovely prizes.

“If you would like to join us, need a good laugh or just enjoy pure public humiliation please pop along on the day. “All the monies raised will be evenly distributed between our chosen charities.

“We really appreciate all your support and thank you for any donations.”

Lindsey Swatridge said: “I know Bronwen through a baby group because my son Henry is the same age as Dominic.

“She got a lot of help from these charities after he had been diagnosed and wanted to give something back to them.

“I came up with the idea of the head shave so that hopefully we can give a good chunk of money to each charity.

“Also some of the hair will be collected and sent to the little princess trust to be made into wigs for children with hair loss.”

The fundraising event will take place at the Ropemakers, High Street, Bridport, at 3pm on June 9.
