TWO summer workshops will entertain children in Charmouth on August 7 and 9.

On Tuesday, August 7 popular 3D artist Darrell Wakelam returns with his craft workshop Top Secret Treasure Chests.

Children can get stuck into building their own mini pirate treasure chest, complete with its own secret compartment!

Dress for mess and take a packed lunch as you enjoy a day of cutting, sticking, papier-mâché and collage. Take home your finished piece to display in your room and store your treasures.

Darrell is an inspiring and exciting children's creative arts leader, who has been running a variety of hugely popular workshops for more than 25 years.

*Top Secret Treasure Chests, Tuesday, August 7, 10:30am to 3pm, St Andrew’s Hall, Charmouth. Call 07967 759135 to book. Costs £10. Suitable for those aged six and above.

Later on in the week children can venture inside the magical and enchanting space of The Story Boat, a miniature world of the sea made from an upturned Dorset fishing boat from 1923.

Led by local boat builder Gail McGarva, who last week featured on BBC Radio 4’s Beach Live, hear the story of the mother boat Vera and tales of the mysterious memory objects housed inside her.

Try your hand at boatbuilding with the riveting of a miniature Story Boat plank. Bring a memory object of your own connected to the sea, and write a fragment of your sea story on your plank as a keepsake from the Story Boat.

*The Story Boat, Thursday, August 9, 11am to 12.30pm (suitable for ages five to seven) and 1.30pm to 3pm (suitable for ages eight to 10), Charmouth Primary School. Call 07967 759135 to book. Costs £5. Workshops have limited places and often sell out so it is worth calling ahead to book. See artsreach.co.uk for more information.
