A YOUNG author will be signing copies of her book about an adventurous little lorry at two major events this weekend.

Rhiannon Samways, aged 12, of Budmouth College, will be signing copies of Charlie and his Adventures at the Sutton Poyntz Fair and Transport of Yesteryear's Annual Show Day.

The book consists of four short bedtime stories for youngsters aged between four and seven.

Rhiannon started writing the book last year when she was a pupil at Chickerell Primary Academy.

She was inspired by her nan, who had previously written stories about Charlie the lorry.

Rhiannon said: "My nan was going to write her second Charlie book and she asked me to write one of the stories, and she would put my name under it.

"My first story was Charlie Has a Flat Tyre and as my nan was really pleased with it my mum suggested I should write some more. I then wrote Charlie and the Racing Car, Charlie Saves the Circus and Charlie Goes to the Dentist.

"My nan thought they were really good and I ended up writing the whole book."

The artwork in the book was done by Louise Mowlam.

Rhiannon said: "We gave her photos of the real lorry that my great great grandad used to own because Charlie actually does exist.

"My nan built the book and it was proof read by a friend.

"We decided that Charlie was going to be printed locally on Portland, just like the first Charlie book my nan wrote."

Rhiannon said she has had wonderful feedback for the book and her family is very proud of her. And next up she plans to do more writing.

"I would like to do a horror story but I'm not sure at the moment," she said.
