A COURSE can make people's dreams of working as a stage hand come true.

There's a chance to take part in Technical Theatre Training in Weymouth next month.

Over the weekend of August 5 to 6, WOW Youth Musical Theatre is hosting an opportunity to learn from one of the foremost professional trainers in stage and production management, Mark Shayle.

WOW has some free places for volunteers able to commit to apply the skills learnt in future WOW productions as well as a heavily subsidised rate for adult representatives of other theatre groups.

Mark has a wealth of experience in many theatrical environments, from repertory to the West End and touring productions.

He also headed up the prestigious LAMDA course in Stage Management and Technical theatre.

He will deliver a fast, funny and engaging weekend of seminars and group discussion.

The weekend is based on the very popular biennial NODA Stage Management Summer School and aims to teach and explain professional practice and techniques for people with little or no stage management experience in the amateur arena. It is also suitable for directors and producers who want to gain knowledge of the nuts and bolts of putting on a show to enhance future productions.

At the end of the weekend, participants should have the confidence to begin to undertake the role of Stage Manager or Show Caller, at their local amateur society.

In a series of seminars the course will cover many topics relating to stage management, including: Who's Who - Roles and responsibilities, jargon busting, the Production Process, focusing on production management, managing "the process" schedules, the prompt copy/cueing the show and running a Technical rehearsal.
