EXPERIENCE the chills of winter on the stage when the extremes of the Finnish landscape come to a Dorset stage,

Fire in the North Sky: Epic Tales from Finland will arrive in Winterborne Stickland on January 27 and Wootton Fitzpaine Village Hall on January 28.

Be transported by songs, adventure and the stories of Kalevala - Finland’s national epic and cultural treasure – equal to Homer’s Iliad and Odyssey, or the old English Beowulf.

Travel to the extremes of the Finnish landscape - the vast forests and lakes, the harshness of winter, the intoxicating summers.

Experience authentic creation myths, tales of Finland’s illustrious heroes and journey with them to the dark river of the underworld.

Leading UK storyteller Nick Hennessey and three virtuoso Finnish musicians make these 2000 year old traditional stories come alive with a touch of offbeat fun, enchantment and evocative music that moves between dancing flutes, infectious rhythms and hauntingly beautiful sung melodies.

From the mythic creation of the sky and earth, to the forging of the mystical Sampo to seduction spells and a mother’s love for her son; Fire in the North Sky combines epic feats of heroes with very human stories of love, loss and longing.

Experience Kalevala returned to its oral roots this spring as this dynamic, intimate and surprising performance tours rural Dorset through Artsreach, the counties arts charity.

Kerry Bartlett, Artsreach Co-Director said “Thanks to the support of our funders and sponsors Blanchards Bailey Solicitors, it’s very exciting to be able to bring these national and international stars to rural venues in Dorset.”

Fire in the North Sky: Epic Tales from Finland is a brand new show from Adverse Camber productions, one of the UK’s most celebrated storytelling companies.

Experience the absolute pinnacle of Finnish contemporary folk music. This production is suitable for those aged 12 and over.
