CELEBRATE poets inspired by New York in West Bay tonight (29).

Graham Fawcett will present a talk at Sladers Yard - as well as reading from and commenting on, the finest poets to have lived, stayed and worked in the Big Apple.

The event will include work by Walt Whitman, Federico Garcia Lorca, Edna St Vincent Millay, Dylan Thomas, W H Auden, Marianne Moore, and EE Cummings.

Graham has just returned from New York where he discovered more about these renowned poets, their lives and work in the city - by teaching their poetry, tracking down their homes and work-places and lecturing with, and talking to, Americans about them.

Graham gave lectures and seminars on these poets in New York in late June and wandered the streets in early July. Poets of New York is his story of that experience.

Tonight's speaker has lectured or led workshops at literary festivals throughout Britain on reading and writing poetry. Lecturer, writer and educator, Graham Fawcett has been a tutor for The Poetry School since 1997, devising and teaching new courses on poetry past and present from around the world. He wrote and presented radio programmes about literature and music on BBC Radio 3 for many years.

Mr Fawcett’s talks explore leading poets, their lives and work. The programme consists of two 45 minute halves with an interval followed by an informal buffet dinner served by staff from Sladers Yard’s licensed café.

The event will begin at 6.30pm. For more information, call 01308 459511.
