CULTURES will clash when My Big Fat Cowpat Wedding arrives in Dorset next month.

This play, based on real people’s experience of mixed marriages, or rural weddings attended by city dwellers out of their comfort zone, comes to Portesham Village Hall on October 19.

It’s time to don your best dress and wellies as Artsreach invite you to join the guests at Clare and Arjun’s wedding reception.

It’s a celebration of a mixed marriage between a country girl and a lad from the city, with all their friends and family. What could possibly go wrong?

Writer Sayan Kent said: “I wanted the piece to explore the clash of cultures in a white family from the country and an Asian family from the city coming together.

"The best way to do that was through comedy and I hope that amid the laughter and fun, the real issues that concern the characters are ever more poignant.”

This fast moving comedy drama from the award-winning Kali Theatre is full of mishaps and misunderstandings with plenty of neat twists and a disco/Bhangra dance for all to enjoy.

Artsreach’s Kerry Bartlett said:“The team first saw a taster of this show at the National Rural Touring Conference last year, and just fell in love with the concept and the characters.

"We laughed from start to finish and knew we just had to bring the show to Dorset; with the support of our season sponsors Blanchards Bailey, it’s fantastic to have four performances happening across the county this autumn.”

Expect a fun, light-hearted exploration of relationships across the divides of rural and urban, race and gender. After all, everyone loves a wedding, don’t they?
