THE AUDIENCE will be transported to a world where snail mail reigns supreme in two outdoor performances coming to Dorchester's Borough Gardens.

People can enjoy curious love story The Last Post in the county town's green lung on Thursday August 4 at 2pm and at 6pm.

Step on board the pillar-box red van-atorium known as Mobile Sorting Office 451, which will be stationed in the middle of the gardens.

The play comes to Dorchester courtesy of Kilter Theatre and Dorchester Arts and features postage paraphernalia from a much-travelled life with people invited to step on board and meet Verity, the irrepressible heiress of an international pen-pal agency, and Red, a redundant post master.

The curious love story is accompanied by live music and following the play the audience will be invited to stay and rummage around the stationary supplies before hopping onto a vintage typewriter or picking up a quill to write a letter they’ve been meaning to send.

Anyone in need of inspiration can pick up a postcard from the ‘Friends for Pens’ pin-board and write to a real-life recipient.

Dorchester Arts summer drama season is sponsored by Battens Solicitors through its charitable trust.

Performances of The Last Post will take place at 2pm and 6pm on Thursday, August 4 at the Borough Gardens.

The production will then head on to the Marine Theatre at Lyme Regis.
