An exciting weekend of live music is promised at The Ropemakers in West Street next weekend, starting on August 15 at 9.15pm with Never Underestimate Musical Belief, or NUMB as they are more easily referred to.

Conceived in 2007, and continuously evolving ever since, alternative hip-hop band NUMB have performed with the likes of Peter Andre, Arrested Development, Frank Turner, Finley Quaye, Mica Paris, The Magic Numbers, The Beat, Transglobal Underground, Zion Train, The Reason 4 and Stooshe.

Described as alternative hip- hop, NUMB delve deeply into many different genres including reggae, indie, rock and roll and pop.

Expect songs that are soulful, infectious, with ‘hard to get out of your head’ hooks that’ll have you singing along to their tracks.

In their first year the band got through to the last 10 out of 30,000 bands in The 02 Wireless competition which saw them perform in Hyde Park at the 02 Festival.

They also came second in the UK heat of Global Battle of the Bands 2009 and in 2011 they were nominated for ‘Best Album’ and ‘Best Live Act’ for the South West Music Awards alongside Muse and Portishead. Saturday, August 16, sees the return of Cuba Libre. Since starting out in 2011 the original band (Dredge, Rob and Adam) has changed a lot.

Starting out playing covers in small dives the band quickly added extra members by getting another guitar player (Pan) who also turns out to be pretty handy at a lot of other instruments.

After adding a trumpet player, (Martin) synth wizard (Buff) and rapper (Lewis) the band has gone on to write their own original music and discovered their own unique sound helping to gain the reputation of being one of the best live acts around.

In late October the band released their first single ‘Monsters Ball’ on AIR FM for Halloween and has been played on Code South FM in Brighton since.
