WEST DORSET: A flood warning has been issued for the area with people urged to take care and stay safe along the coast.
The warning, which means flooding is expected, affects Lyme Regis and West Bay.
An alert, which means flooding is possible and asks residents to be prepared, is also in place for Charmouth, Seatown, Bothenhampton, Burton Freshwater, Burton Bradstock and more.
An Environment Agency spokesperson said very strong winds and large waves bring the potential for spray overtopping promenades and along exposed coasts – as shown in this photo taken recently of high tide at Lyme’s iconic Cobb by photographer Simon Emmett.
The spokesperson added: “This flood alert affects the whole of the West coast of Dorset particularly at Lyme Regis and West Bay.
“It will remain in force until 5am tomorrow morning, Thursday, January 15.
“The forecast wind direction is south westerly, and the forecast wind strength is force 9.”
An unsettled end to the week will see the possibility of snow and ice, together with wind and rain.
Parts of the coast were set to see gusts of 75mph during Wednesday night into Thursday morning.
Dorset County Council is working with the Environment Agency, utility companies and local councils to prepare for the forecast weather.
