CHIPPING SODBURY TOWN 0

BRIDPORT 4

McGrath 23, 55, Latas 46, Thomas 73

CHRIS McGrath scored a brace to make it three goals in four games for him as Bridport swept past Chipping Sodbury Town 4-0 in the Toolstation Western Premier Division.

Oscar Latas and Leighton Thomas also contributed with goals as the Bees secured an impressive win away from home.

Both sides started brightly and Jason Hutchings was called into action early in the Bridport goal to keep the scores level.

Bridport would prove the first side to get the breakthrough in the 23rd minute as McGrath opened the scoring from an Andy Martin corner with a strong header.

Further chances came as Richard Hebditch went clean through but was fouled by a defender and the Bees were unable to add to their tally in the first half.

The away side would not wait long to score again however, as great work from Kameron Andrews and Hebditch allowed Latas to get in and place the ball in the bottom corner in the 46th minute.

This seemed to kill off the match as Bridport scored two more goals.

The first came 10 minutes into the second half from a free-kick out wide as McGrath again scored with a header from a Martin set-piece.

The next came in the 73rd minute as Thomas made a superb solo run down the right-hand side, got into the box then smashed the ball in from a tight angle.

The Blues’ defence then held firm for the rest of the match despite good pace from the home side’s wingers.

As a result, Bridport sit 11th in the table, two points and one place behind Saturday’s opponents Bitton.

Bridport boss Adam Fricker: “It was a thoroughly deserved and good to get points and some goals on the board.

“We have got a lot to play for still, with us being in the Les Phillips Cup so there is plenty of hunger in the team and the lads just love playing football.”

Bridport’s two-goal hero signed solely for the Bees last month from Taunton Town, having been on dual registration and is the son of former Manchester United player Paul McGrath.

Fricker said: “He just gives us that little bit of experience in the back four and he has proven he is a massive threat in front of goal, especially from set-pieces.

“We are lucky to have him, to be perfectly honest.”

Bridport are next in action on Saturday at home to Bitton (3pm).
