Stefan Taylor has stood down as manager of Lyme Regis FC after spending a successful five-year spell working with various teams at the club.
He announced his decision at the weekend before Lyme’s Devon and Exeter League Premier Division match with Westexe Park Rangers, and assistants Kingsley Wellman and Mark Bailey took charge of the team.
Taylor told the News that Lyme Regis would always remain his club and that he would not rule out a return at some point in the future.
Meanwhile, a club spokesman thanked Taylor for his hard work and commitment through the last five years and the way he had helped the club progress to where it is today.
Club officials were due to meet this week to discuss the situation and decide on the best way of moving forward.
The game with Westexe finished 1-1, Lyme picking up their first league point of the season.
There were problems even before the start, though, when goalkeeper Will Meech picked up an injury in the warm-up and had to be replaced by striker Declan Ellis, who went on to produce a fine performance.
After a shaky start, Lyme grew into the game with Josh Rawlins causing havoc up front, ably supported by Mattie Loader-Mouland and Will Greenwood.
After a goalless first half, Lyme’s midfield trio of Daley Holmes, Orrin Newberry and Fin McLean took over, and after ten minutes of the second period McLean put Lyme ahead from a 25-metre free kick.
There were then opportunities at both ends in a hectic final spell before Westexe snatched a late equaliser when the Lyme defence failed to deal with a corner kick.
It was a great start to the season for Lyme Regis Rovers, who were 4-0 away winners at Shepton Beauchamp.
The goals were scored by Ali Kamara (2), Sam Merigaux and Josh Axbey.
On Saturday (September 12), Lyme Regis are home to Colyton FC while the Reserve side travel to Cranbrook United in Division Six Brown of the DEL.
Both games kick off at 3pm.
Lyme Regis Rovers visit Ilminster Town A in Division Two of the Perry Street League.
This game starts at 2.30pm.
