Lyme Regis lose 2-1 to Crediton United at Davey Fort

The latest setback came at the Davey Fort when they were beaten 2-1 by Crediton United Reserves.

A disastrous start did not help when a short back pass to the goalkeeper was intercepted by United’s Casey Grossett after five minutes and he went on to score.

Mattie Loader Mouland did pull one back midway through the first half when The Seasiders were beginning to dominate possession.

Another mistake, this time a penalty kick conceded, gave the visitors the chance to get in front and Grossett made no mistake from the spot.

There were missed chances as the second half progressed but an equalising goal never came.

No problems finding the net for Lyme Regis Reserves though who were 6-2 winners at Farway United in Division Six Brown of the DEL.

The youthful nature of the Lyme squad was particularly notable with two 16-year-olds, four 17-year-olds and two 16-year-olds all involved.

After going a goal behind, Lyme got back on terms when Steve Batey slotted home a penalty kick after Alex Burrough had been brought down.

That gave the spark that The Seasiders needed and they began to dominate play, particularly exploiting the wide areas of the pitch.

Sam Merigaux went on to hit a hat-trick and there was also a double from Alex Burrough.

Man of the Match went to midfielder Aidan McLellan for his really impressive performance.

This Saturday (September 5), Lyme Regis has another home match when Westexe Park are the visitors to Davey Fort.

Kick-off is 3pm.

Lyme Regis Reserves are away to Exmouth Riptide in Division Six Brown of the DEL (3pm) while Lyme Regis Rovers start their season at Shepton Beauchamp Reserves in Division Two of the Perry Street League, 2.30pm start.
