It was a disappointing start for Lyme Regis FC when they went down 3-1 to East Budleigh in their opening game in the Premier Division of the Devon and Exeter League.
The Seasiders went into the game with several new signings and leading players missing but still created enough chances to have taken something from it.
After creating chances from set pieces and balls through the lines they went a goal behind following mis-communication in the defence.
Worse was to follow as centre back Dane James was forced off with an injury to be replaced by newcomer Conor Newns.
Will Greenwood then blazed over the crossbar before the visitors got a second goal when the ball was given away cheaply in the middle of the park.
Just before the break a long-distance strike from Mattie Loader Mouland got Lyme back into the game and this upward trend continued into the second half with the visiting goalkeeper making a number of good saves.
Manager Stefan Taylor rang the changes as the half progressed but they were caught again with a long ball over the top to concede a third goal.
Rian Hill got two of the East Budleigh goals and Guy Laverock was also on target.
Taylor told the News, “Overall the scoreline flattered the visitors but it was not one to be too negative about with a much-changed side and also missing a few key players.”
This Saturday (August 29) Lyme Regis are at home to Crediton United Reserves.
Kick off is at 3pm.
Lyme Regis Reserves travel to Farway United in Division Six Brown of the Devon and Exeter League.
The game starts at 3pm.
Uplyme FC, reformed recently under manager James Whetlor, also begin their season in Division Six Brown of the Devon and Exeter League with an away match tomorrow (August 28) against Axminster Town III.
