UPLYME & LYME REGIS 249-7 (19pts) beat BUDLEIGH SALTERTON II 234-9 (8pts) by 15 runs.

UPLYME kept their heads in a tight finish to beat Budleigh Salterton by 15 runs in a high-scoring Devon League C Division East game which could have swung either way.

After opener Preston Hilless (0) perished early, Uplyme consolidated their score with a highly productive stand between wicketkeeper Alfie Jacques and Daniel Magee.

Jacques’ total of 69 included nine fours and following his departure Magee continued to skilfully build his total with some able support from Joe Elsworth (20) and Tyler Wellman (19).

Magee, who struck eight fours and two sixes, was unfortunate to be run out six short of his century just before the Uplyme innings finally closed on 249.

Pick of the Budleigh bowlers were Sean Butler (2-42) and Joel Murphy (2-55).

The visitors looked unlikely to achieve the run rate needed in the early stages of their innings but several middle-order partnerships focused around Donovan Robinson (87), which included some big hitting, began to swing the game in their favour.

Uplyme skipper Sam Farrow then made several crucial interventions, taking the wicket of Posapalli (26) with his slow right-arm bowling and catching out Tom Oxland (15) and Sean Butler (33).

The Budleigh tail could not maintain the momentum against some sensible Uplyme bowling at the death and the visitors fell 15 runs short at the close.

Hilless’ genuine pace earned him figures of 3-23 off nine overs while Farrow closed with 2-44.

Uplyme, who make the long trip to Braunton on Saturday (1pm), have made a successful start to their T20 campaigns with recent wins over Ottery St. Mary in the East Devon T20 Bash and Seaton in the Ivor Dewdney Corinthian Cup.
