OTTERY ST MARY II 1

LYME REGIS 2

FRED Parsons took his goalscoring tally to eight in four games as Lyme Regis exacted revenge over Ottery St Mary Seconds with a 2-1 victory in Joma Devon & Exeter League Premier Division action.

Parsons has been a revelation since returning from an exploratory spell at Bridport Reserves in mid-season.

After finding St Mary’s Field not to his liking, he has spearheaded a revival in fortunes for Lyme, who now sit seventh in the table following their fourth victory in five league games.

The only blemish in that run was a 4-2 defeat at the hands of the previously winless Otters, and Lyme were out to avenge that shock result.

Midway through the first half, Parsons set the Seasiders on their way to victory, nodding home a Ben Turner flick-on.

And Parsons grabbed a headed brace in the second half when converting Rob Fellingham’s deflected cross.

Ottery battled on and set up a nervy final few seconds when Connor Swingler’s cross-shot floated in past Lyme keeper Chris Higgs.

However, Lyme held on to consolidate seventh position in the standings.

Speaking to the Bridport & Lyme Regis News, boss Julien Simier said: “I’m absolutely delighted.

“Delighted with the way we’re playing at the moment. It was a very difficult last 15 minutes but I was very pleased.

“We deserved to win overall. They didn’t create anything and we could’ve scored much more.

“We’re playing some really good football and it seems like Fred is finishing the job for us at the moment.”

Lyme now visit Colyton on Saturday, knowing a win would leapfrog them above their opponents into sixth.

Simier said: “Colyton is always a hard one. We don’t seem to be able to win over there, it seems to be our black cat.

“I don’t know why it is. They come to us and we manage them well but we go over there and struggle.

“They are a good team, a bit like us. They do play football. I think they’re one of the strongest sides in the league. It’s not going to be an easy game at all.”

However, Simier has doubts over whether the fixture will take place given poor weather expected from Storm Eunice this week.

He added: “Colyton is right next to a river, so the water goes everywhere on the pitch. Then there’s no need for football boots – just bring your kayak!

“I had a picture of the pitch (when it flooded) and you couldn’t see it. I’ve got a mate who lives close to it.

“He said he’s brought his kayak and I thought he was joking. He took a picture and you could see just a little bit of the crossbar. He was on his kayak literally on the pitch, it was mental.”

Callum Garrett (groin) is a doubt as is Cam Fowler but Gary Knight returns. Parsons should be available as he waits to become a father.
