THORVERTON 4

LYME REGIS 3

LYME Regis suffered a rollercoaster 4-3 defeat at Thorverton in the Joma Devon & Exeter League Premier Division.

Julien Simier’s Seasiders were 2-0 up in six minutes after a blistering start as Harvey Brimicombe chased a long ball and won a 50/50 with a defender before beating keeper Harry Slack and rolling home.

Lyme’s second came from another long ball, Brad Rowe collecting and cutting inside before giving Slack the eyes and firing home when he shaped to cross.

After Lyme’s dream start, Thorverton came roaring back to lead 3-2 at half-time with three unanswered goals.

Ryan Moody halved the deficit with a headed goal before Lee Radford equalised. Jake Ebdon then finished off a superb long pass from Peter Eveleigh to give the hosts the lead.

Lyme battled back in the second half and got their third goal – again from a long ball – when substitute Josh Daines chipped Slack.

With the sides cancelling each other out until stoppage time, Radford had designs on snatching all three points – emphatically blasting home to seal a late victory.

Simier said: “It was just madness. I have to be honest, it’s probably the worst team performance we have played since I’ve been in charge.

“We didn’t turn up at all. It was crazy. We almost took a point and I would’ve been happy with that.

“I know my squad and I know we didn’t perform the best we can.”

Lyme now host Lapford on Saturday – their second meeting in four games after a 3-1 loss in late August.

Simier added: “Our start to the season has been hit and miss.

“We had a chat and we want to put it right. There was a lot of regret after the game and it’s not OK. I’m expecting a big reaction this Saturday.

“A lot of resilience and a massive reaction from the lads.”

Lyme are without Brad Rowe and Danny Rendell for the battle.

Lyme: Harp, R Sargent, Vere, G Knight, K Wellman (Daines 65), Fellingham, Garrett, Fowler (Rinaldi 75), Rendell (Bastin 60), Brimicombe, Rowe.
