LYME REGIS 2

ALPHINGTON SECONDS 1

LYME Regis secured a late win over Alphington Seconds as Ben Turner scored to seal the three points in their Devon & Exeter Division One encounter.

The result sees the Seasiders stay second in the table with 20 points, two behind University of Exeter Seconds.

The Seasiders took the lead after 15 minutes at Davey Fort with a well-worked corner which led to a left-foot finish from Dominic Rowe.

However, the home side were pegged back after Alphington notched a leveller through Joe Boyne in the 40th minute.

The first half had seen Chris Herbst put through one on one a couple of times but he could not convert while Brad Rowe also had a good chance for the home side.

Lyme Regis manager Robin Townsend said: “We could have quite easily gone in at half-time 4-1 up.”

The second half saw a few good chances go begging as the match seemed to be heading to a stalemate.

However, the Seasiders claimed all three points in the 89th minute a well-worked move saw the ball go wide to Robbie Fellingham, who crossed for Turner head in.

Townsend said: “It was a very battling performance from us.

“The pitch was very heavy at home and there wasn’t much football played on it.

“I think we showed the flip side of the coin of the side we are, one minute being so poor and the next battling and getting the three points which was well deserved.”

Townsend praised his team saying: “It was a very battling and pleasing performance from us.

“All in all it didn’t look like we were going to get the three points but we kept going.”

The Seasiders take on Portland United Reserves in the third round of the Dorset Senior Trophy on Saturday.
