LYME REGIS 0

CRONIES 3

LYME Regis finished their Devon & Exeter League Division One season with a disappointing 3-0 defeat to runaway champions Cronies.

With both sides’ fate sealed for the season, the teams made a number of changes to their teams and it was the visitors who took a comfortable win.

Cronies took the lead through a header from a set-piece, before a mistake from Lyme’s goalkeeper Chris Higgs made it two before half-time.

Lyme huffed and puffed to find a goal but were condemned to defeat when Cronies got a third with 10 minutes remaining, with Lyme manager Robin Townsend saying the display summed up their season.

He said: “It was one of those games. It was a bit of drubbing but with the mistakes we made a team at the top of the league are going to capitalise.

“We had 11 players missing so we weren’t at our strongest, but I don’t think they were either.

“The result just sort of summed up our season. We huffed and puffed but just haven’t had anybody to put the ball in the net all year.

“I feel it’s been a pretty disappointing season. My aim was to get the club promoted, and that’s not happened which was the remit from the club.

“So whether I’m here next year, I’m not sure and both the club and I will have to think about it.”
