ANTHONY Honeyball is to aim Ms Parfois at the Coral Welsh National at Chepstow next winter following her runner-up finish in Saturday’s Reynoldstown Novices’ Chase at Ascot.

The Mosterton handler is already looking to target the big staying handicap chase in late December after Ms Parfois ran a creditable race to beat all bar the prolific Black Corton at Grade Two level.

The seven-year-old was on a roll herself having won her three previous races, but whether she runs at Cheltenham or anywhere else this season depends on the ground.

“It’s all about next season now and I think the Welsh National at the end of this year would be her mid-season target,” said Honeyball.

“She might go in the four-miler (National Hunt Chase) if it turned up soft at the Festival, but this was her Gold Cup. I thought that was going to be her day if she was going to win another big one.

“You could do anything with her – you could run her in a hurdle if you wanted.”

Reflecting on Saturday’s performance, the trainer added: “She ran okay and I thought the winner really showed his class.

“I thought we were going to pick him off. We got there and he quickened and we just kept on.

“I think we were nearly as far clear of the third as we were jumping the last. She got left a bit on her own when the winner went away and was a bit lonely.

“She ran fine. Second in a Reynoldstown – that’s not bad for a mare.

“We’ll keep her ticking over. If there was a race for her and some juice in the ground we’d see about it.”
