HAMWORTHY UTD RES 3

BRIDPORT RES 0

GOALS from Sam Carter (2) and Joshua Rose saw Bridport Reserves suffer a defeat at Hamworthy United Reserves in the Dorset Premier League on Saturday.

One of only two games to go ahead in the league, the loss sees the Bees stay 13th in the table, while their opponents rise to fourth.

The visitors spent the early part of the game trying to play on the counter while their opponents dominated possession for the opening 15 minutes.

The Hammers had the first real chance in the 23rd minute when a good move started Brandon Randall ended with him heading over the bar from a good ball in.

Samuel Handyside had an opportunity 10 minutes later after breaking through the Hamworthy defence, breaking down the left-hand side but his shot found the side-netting.

In the last chance of a good first half, Hamworthy defender Liam Meldrum found himself in on goal but could only hit the post as the two sides went in goalless at half-time.

The second half started with the Hammers on the front foot and Jordan Basing cut in and his resulting shot hit the bar to fire Bridport a warning and not long after that Hamworthy took the lead through Rose.

A great move between Zanin and Nick Swann with a cross from the latter finding Rose who fired in forcing Billy Fleet into a superb stop but he could not keep the rebound out from Rose in the 55th minute.

Zanin was again involved in the build up as he linked up with Nick Patrick for a cross in towards Carter who headed in past Fleet.

Hamworthy wrapped up their win as Carter secured a brace by taking on four players and finely shooting in from 25 yards out.

Bridport manager Shaun Annetts praised Hamworthy and said that he was pleased with the performance he saw from his players.

Annetts said: “They are a good side Hamworthy, especially on their own pitch and we did well I thought for the first half to keep them at bay and restrict them to very few chances.”

“In the second half their superiority shone through really.

“It was a much better performance from us than before Christmas when we were leaking lots of goals.”

Annetts decided not to include any first-team players despite manager Adam Fricker offering as he decided to stick with the team that beat Swanage Town & Herston 2-1 the previous week.

Annetts added: “I opted not to strengthen with any first-team players and stick with my lads who played so well against Swanage.”

Bridport’s next match sees them face a trip to Balti Sports at Weymouth College in the league on Saturday (2pm).
