UPLYME & LYME REGIS 189-8 (8pts) lost to WHIMPLE 191-9 (18pts) by one wicket
UPLYME & Lyme Regis suffered a narrow defeat in the Devon League as they were beaten by one wicket at home against Whimple.
Having lost the toss and been asked to bat by the visitors at the King George V Playing Fields, contributions from opener Liam Gorfine (38), Steve Batey (40) and Mark Batey (25) helped Uplyme to a competitive score of 189-8 from their 35 overs.
Matt Richards was the pick of the Whimple bowlers with figures of 2-26 from his seven overs.
In reply, Whimple’s match-winner proved to be number three batsman Leigh Lorenzen, who finished unbeaten on 98, who anchored the away side’s innings after Kevin Thompson was dismissed without scoring.
Figures of 3-38 from Uplyme skipper James Whetlor kept his side in the hunt but Lorenzen’s knock proved to be decisive as the away side scraped over the line with one wicket and 10 balls to spare.
