BRIDPORT Youth Football Club hosted their tournament, sponsored by Humberts, at Bridport FC and St Mary’s Playing Fields.

The event, sanctioned by the Dorset FA, catered for teams from under-6 to under-18, with a total of 100 teams taking part in the competition over the two days.

The venue was packed with young footballers and spectators and the atmosphere on both days was electric. The home crowd certainly had something to cheer about with two Bridport sides winning the under-8 and under-12 age groups respectively.

Organiser Martin Phillips said the event was a huge success with some really close and nail-biting games, as well as some exceptional football played over the two days.

He said: “Having tested the water last year with a tournament for 24 teams and a smaller under-9 tournament in May, it is really pleasing to have come through the weekend having successfully staged a 100-team show.

“I said last year ‘we will certainly be back next year in some format, ideally bigger and better’ and we definitely delivered that for the town and community.

“This however, would not have been possible without the support of Bridport FC, so on behalf of all at our club, thank you.

“There are far too many people to thank who have supported us in making this happen from committee members, coaches, parents of the club and not forgetting the great local businesses who have sponsored the event – thanks once again for your support.

“No doubt we will be back again next year, whether we can go bigger or better who knows.”
