BRIDPORT Under-9s enjoyed a successful Bank Holiday weekend winning the Dorchester Town annual tournament at the Avenue Stadium after beating Portland United 1-0 in the final.

They then followed this up on Bank Holiday Monday winning their own May Day Nines Tournament at a packed Salwayash Village Hall, coming from behind in the final to win 2-1 against Redlands Rebels.

The team topped off a fine weekend by visiting their 2017-18 home kit and team jacket sponsors Baboo Gelato to enjoy a well- deserved award-winning ice cream.

Speaking of their achievements, manager Martin Philips said: “The boys are a credit to me and their parents and were fantastic over the weekend.

“I would like to thank Salwayash Village Hall for allowing us to host the May Day Nines event and all the teams, coaches, parents and spectators for making it yet another fantastic tournament.

“I would also like to put on record my sincere thanks to Sam and Annie from Baboo Gelato for their generous support for next season.”

n Phillips’ next challenge is to arrange and host three charity matches in aid of Julia’s House which will again include his youth side against Redlands Rebels followed by a mums and dads' game against their Redlands counterparts.
