BEAMINSTER Cricket Club are looking forward to a much-improved campaign in County Division Three.

The club are set to kick-off the campaign as they travel to take on Poole Town Thirds on Saturday, May 6, and first-team captain Ross Baker is hoping for a big improvement.

He said: “There’s a lot more optimism going into this season than there has been for the last few years. There’s a few players coming back who haven’t played a lot over recent years so that’s fantastic news. We’re hoping for a really good season.

“We’re looking for more consistency. Last season was a bit up and down, we started slowly and picked up in the middle before fading away towards the end.

“We want to start the season positively, get a few wins under our belt during the first month and then build on that throughout the season.”

Baker confirmed that the club have managed to retain all of their key players from last season, and with a few existing players re-affirming their commitment to the season, he is feeling positive.

He said: “We haven’t lost any of our main players so we’ve managed keep hold of our squad and managed to build them from last year. We’re a lot stronger than last year. We were scratching around for players, and folded our second team which was a bit of a blow for us.

“But with the new T25 team starting this year, we’ve entered a side in t hat which will essentially be our

second team so we have two teams again which is great news for the club.”

The club’s final preparations come as they are holding a club friendly tonight, which will include a mixture of all of the first team, the T25 Sunday team and a number of the club’s youngsters.

This will be followed by the season’s curtain raiser on May 6, which will begin an exciting summer of Cricket for Beaminster which runs until their final game on September 2.
